History & Mission

Our History

Members Heritage opened its doors in April 1960 as IBM (Lexington) Employees Federal Credit Union. In the early 1990s, the credit union began to grow and diversify, offering service to employees at additional companies. In 1993, we changed our name to Members Heritage Federal Credit Union, representing the concept of member ownership and respect for the IBM heritage.

Today, we serve over 49,000 members with assets of $520,000,000. Members Heritage operates four convenient locations in Lexington, KY, which includes our office inside of FMC. We also have branches located in Winchester, KY, and Nicholasville, KY.

In 2015, we expanded our membership to include people who live, work, worship, attend school or have family members in the following counties: Anderson, Bath, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Estill, Fayette, Franklin, Garrard, Harrison, Jessamine, Lincoln, Madison, Menifee, Mercer, Montgomery, Morgan, Nicholas, Powell, Rowan, Scott and Woodford. Our name then became Members Heritage Credit Union.

Our Mission

Members Heritage is a not-for-profit cooperative association with a “people helping people” philosophy. We believe our first responsibility is to our members. As a member, you are also an owner and have a voice in the operation and management of your credit union and can volunteer to serve on committees or run for an elected position. A volunteer Board of Directors with many years of experience in the credit union industry controls our operations. We strive to provide members with a safe, convenient place to save and borrow at reasonable rates. Our institution exists to benefit our members—not to make a profit.

We provide maximum security for members’ funds through the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a U.S. Government Agency. Members Heritage is an Equal Housing Lender. Our lending policies comply with the Equal Credit Opportunity Act.

Our Philosophy

We believe our first responsibility is to our members. In meeting their needs everything we do must be of high quality. We must constantly strive to reduce our costs in order to maintain reasonably priced services. Members must receive prompt and accurate service.

We are responsible to our employees. We must consider everyone as an individual. We must respect their dignity and recognize their merit. They must have a sense of security in their jobs. Compensation must be fair and adequate, and working conditions clean, orderly and safe. Employees must feel free to make suggestions and share concerns. There must be equal opportunity for employment, development, and advancement for those qualified. We must provide competent management, and their actions must be just and ethical.

Our final responsibility is to the Credit Union and its long-term financial stability. We must experiment with new ideas. We must engage in research, develop innovative programs and pay for mistakes. We must purchase new equipment, provide new facilities, and launch new services. We must create reserves to provide for adverse times and provide capital for growth.
