History & Mission

Members Heritage opened its doors in April 1960 as IBM (Lexington) Employees Federal Credit Union. In the early 1990’s, the credit union began to grow and diversify, offering service to employees at additional companies. In 1993, our name was changed to Members Heritage Federal Credit Union, representing the concept of member ownership and respect for the IBM heritage.

Today, we serve over 45,000 members with assets over $300,000,000. Members Heritage operates five convenient locations in Lexington, KY, which includes our office inside of Lexmark and FMC. We also have branches located in Winchester, KY, and Nicholasville, KY.

In 2015, our membership was expanded to include people who live, work, worship, attend school or have family members in the following counties:  Anderson, Bath, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Estill, Fayette, Franklin, Garrard, Harrison, Jessamine, Lincoln, Madison, Menifee, Mercer, Montgomery, Morgan, Nicholas, Powell, Rowan, Scott and Woodford.

Members Heritage is a not-for-profit cooperative association with a “people helping people” philosophy. We believe our first responsibility is to our members. As a member, you are also an owner and have a voice in the operation and management of your credit union and can volunteer to serve on committees or run for an elected position. Our operations are controlled by a volunteer Board of Directors with many years of experience in the credit union industry. We strive to provide members with a safe, convenient place to save and borrow at reasonable rates. Our institution exists to benefit our members, not to make a profit.

We provide maximum security for members’ funds through the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a U.S. Government Agency. Members Heritage is an Equal Housing Lender. Our lending policies comply with the Equal Credit Opportunity Act.

Our Philosophy

We believe our first responsibility is to our members. In meeting their needs everything we do must be of high quality. We must constantly strive to reduce our costs in order to maintain reasonably priced services. Members must receive prompt and accurate service.

We are responsible to our employees. Everyone must be considered as an individual. We must respect their dignity and recognize their merit. They must have a sense of security in their jobs. Compensation must be fair and adequate, and working conditions clean, orderly and safe. Employees must feel free to make suggestions and share concerns. There must be equal opportunity for employment, development, and advancement for those qualified. We must provide competent management, and their actions must be just and ethical.

Our final responsibility is to the Credit Union and its long-term financial stability.  We must experiment with new ideas.  Research must be carried on, innovative programs developed, and mistakes paid for.  New equipment must be purchased, new facilities provided, and new services launched.  Reserves must be created to provide for adverse times, and to provide capital for growth.
